A working meeting between CARICC delegation led by Director Mr. Makhmud Khamidov and a delegation of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan led by Mr. Alzhan Nurbekov, Head of Strategic Development Department, was held via videoconference on 15 May 2026.

During the meeting participants discussed pertinent issues regarding improvement of regional mechanisms to counter transnational drug threats amid the rapid growth of illicit trafficking of synthetic drugs, rising volumes of precursor chemicals and active shift of drug trafficking to cyberspace, including by means of cryptocurrencies, darknet platforms, and private communication channels.

Special attention was given to prospects for integrating modern digital solutions and artificial intelligence technologies into the work of law enforcement agencies and coordinating bodies in CARICC states.

Parties discussed an initiative to establish a unified interstate early warning system for drug threats based on artificial intelligence and cyberspace monitoring in CARICC participating countries.

In addition, participants discussed arrangements for a joint side event to be held during the 35th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice on: “Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies in Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime,” scheduled for 2 June 2026 in Vienna.

Talks underlined the importance of consolidating international efforts aimed at introducing modern technologies, strengthening early warning mechanisms and developing intergovernmental cooperation in countering transnational organized crime and illicit drug trafficking.
