Meeting with Security Liaison Officer of Italy

CARICC representatives met with Mr. Bartolomeo Luca Magliarisi, Head of Security Cooperation Office at the Embassy of Italy in Tashkent, in Almaty on 22 October 2026 to discuss prospects for cooperation in combating illicit drug trafficking.

During the meeting parties discussed CARICC’s primary initiatives to enhance the Centre’s operational efficiency, refine information and analytical coordination, and strengthen practical cooperation among competent authorities of participating countries.

Special attention was given to CARICC initiative to set up a regional early-warning system for drug threats using artificial intelligence technologies. They noted potential value of studying Italian experience in detecting new psychoactive substances and organizing information sharing on emerging threats.

They also discussed opportunities for broadening expert interaction, exchanging best practices, and organizing joint events to raise professional qualifications of specialists. Additionally, they covered countering misuse of digital platforms in illicit drug trafficking and developing international cooperation in carrying out anti-drug operations.

The meeting followed up on an ongoing dialogue focused on developing practical cooperation between CARICC and related Italian organizations. Both sides expressed interest in further exploring promising areas of collaboration and developing opportunities for joint initiatives.
